MONSOON MOOD!-Are you experiencing the blues?

2 Mins read

Monsoon. The first thing to come to your mind when you hear this word would be prosperity, some green trees, petrichor, the cool breeze, flood, holiday (but it won’t happen don’t worry), and more. We get reminded about how we get seated next to a window, drinking a cup of coffee/tea and creating fake scenarios of being in a movie as the lead character.

Rain<3

We all know that there are a lot of good things associated with rain, plus there are a lot of bad things too. Recently, we saw how rain-affected Kerala, there was a cloud burst which led to flooding and landslides, killing almost 20 people as of Sunday. We also know how rain is very important, it helps with agricultural irrigation, it provides us clear drinking water, it helps to fill the lakes and ponds so that the aquatic creatures could live happily, the list is endless.

Flood

I would like to compare rain with our mental health. For example, when there are heavy rains with adequate gaps, it keeps us happy and refreshed, we might take a walk when it’s drizzling and the petrichor will make us happy. But when there’s a cloudburst and flooding, we are sad and anxious thinking about our future and the wellbeing of the people around us.

When we don’t bottle up our emotions and express them correctly like how the heavy rains with adequate gaps do, it results in the wellbeing of the person and the people around them. When the person tells someone about what they exactly feel, due to the vulnerability, the bonds between the concerned person and the person around them, strengthen. Crying also activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which helps your body to rest.

If you bottle up your emotions, you would reach a breaking point where you just break down like the cloudburst, resulting in hurting yourself and the people around you. When we were born and when we were little babies, we literally used to cry 24/7. There was no one to tell us, “Omg man up! Men don’t cry” or “Omg you’re an adult, why are you crying”. NO! It’s time we throw those trashy opinions into the trash can and start to feel everything we want to feel, cause you feel what you feel, and your feelings are real. We are real human beings with real brains and real emotions. If someone has told you otherwise, please don’t listen to it.

As Taylor Swift said in one of her songs, “Rain came pouring down. When I was drowning, that’s when I could finally breathe And by morning gone was any trace of you, I think I am finally clean”, just let yourself get drenched in the rain, let go of the emotions you keep bottling up and think of it as a new beginning. But please don’t get drenched in the real rain, because you might get some severe headache afterward!

Happy Monsoon everyone!
